The term "Gayuma" means "love potion" and on the island of Siquijor, south of Negros, love-seekers are said to have searched for the Gayuma. This is said to have been used in traditional ceremonies to unite the powers of the spiritual and material worlds. Don Papa Gayuma is a super premium rum that pays homage to the unique rituals of the shamans of Mount Kanlaon and Isla del Fuego ("the island of fire").
Description: The basis for the Don Papa Rum is 100% pure sugar cane from the island of Negros in the Philippines and the rum is produced at the Bleeding Heart Rum Company in continuous distillation. After distillation, the Don Papa is left to mature for 3 years at the foot of the Kanlaon volcano in specially selected oak barrels. The relatively high temperatures averaging around 27 degrees Celsius and up to 80% high humidity mean that Don Papa Rum ages much faster. Due to bad weather in the Philippines, the "angel portion" (the portion that evaporates during storage) is very high. The Filipino tradition of not replenishing the resulting losses leads to extremely dark, intense and highly concentrated rum. Furthermore, the Don Papa Gayuma Rum acquires fine oak notes thanks to the aging in American barrels. The Don Papa then receives a double barrel finish: 6 months in well-toasted ex Rioja casks, followed by 3 months in fairly smoked toasted oak casks previously seasoned with Scotch whiskey from the legendary island of Islay. After filtration, the rum with an alcohol content of 40% vol. it is bottled in a 0.7 liter round glass bottle. It is not known whether sugar or dye was used.
Perfume: you can expect a rum that smells strongly of oak and well toasted wood and smoke. It also smells of sweet tobacco leaves, there is also a faintly pronounced nuance of milk chocolate and ripe vanilla pods and over all the scent of fresh, ripe fruit such as peach and pear.
Taste: A pleasant alcoholic warmth welcomes you, supported by a bush of sweet herbs. It tastes like fresh mint, menthol and Earl Gray notes, which are underlined with rich dark chocolate, spiced blood oranges, a hint of cinnamon and a creamy vanilla caramel note.
The final: The finish is wonderfully long and aromatic. Smoky notes and sweet vanilla slowly leave the palate and then leave behind nuances of dried fruit, molasses and fresh herbs.
