A Piece of British History: GBD Prestige Stand Up
Founded in Paris in 1850 and later relocated to London under the aegis of A. Oppenheimer & Co., GBD is a pillar of European pipe history. Renowned for setting timeless standards of quality and proportions, the brand presents this magnificent example from the Prestige line, one of the company's top-tier selections. This used, broken-in pipe combines classic design with highly sought-after functionality.
"Stand Up" Shape and Ornate Silver Band
The design features a Stand Up shape (also known as a Sitter or Poker): the bowl base is expertly flattened, allowing the pipe to stand upright on any flat surface without the need for a pipe rest. The smooth finish, in warm amber tones, showcases a rich, deep briar grain, with dense bird's-eye figuring and flame grain along the sides.
Further enhancing its appearance, a substantial, refined ornate silver band encircles the end of the shank. The band is clearly stamped with the historic "GBD" logo inside its signature oval, along with the hallmarks identifying the precious metal. The curved black methacrylate stem fits elegantly, delivering exceptional smoking comfort and an excellent draw (no filter).
Condition and Assessment by Mr. Pierpaolo Spinozzi
This pre-owned pipe is part of our exclusive selection of guaranteed used pipes. Although it has been smoked regularly, the pipe is in excellent cosmetic condition. Given the band’s perfect condition and the enduring practicality of the Stand Up shape, Mr. Pierpaolo Spinozzi has awarded it a five-star rating (*****).
